Administration

Below is a screenshot of the administration page in gpEasy which is located via the floating menu item "Administration" when logged in.
The Admin Page in gpEasy 2.1

The following article will discuss the main administration tools in order.

Page Manager (previously named File Manager)

Below is a screenshot of the page manager. This is the main area to organize your menus, change layouts associated with pages, delete pages, etc. gpEasy 2.0 allows for creation of multiple custom menus.

The Page Manager allows you to organize all of your titles from one central location.
Drag 'n drop titles to their desired menu position, rename titles, create new titles, and more.

Main Menu

By default the Main Menu is the default menu for gpEasy. It has certain characteristics you need to be aware of. As of gpEasy 2.1,

  • if you remove a page from the Main Menu that page will NOT show up in the site map (/Special_Site_Map).
  • if you remove a gallery from the Main Menu it will not show up in the /Special_Galleries page.
  • the Main Menu is the ONLY menu that allows you to delete a page and change a page's associated layout.

Therefore, if you are using multiple additional menus in your gpEasy installation it might be a good idea NOT to use the Main Menu in a layout, and keep it available for organizational purposes--site map, galleries, etc.

Page Options

View & Edit Page : Takes you to the selected title.
Rename/Detail : Opens popup window to rename file and change file's meta data.
Remove From Menu : Removes the selected page from the current menu. It does NOT delete the page.
Delete : Deletes the file and moves it to the trash.
Layout : Choose the layout associated with the selected page.
Insert Into Menu' : Insert a page before, after, or as a child page.

Uploaded Files

The "Uploaded Files" page is where you can view and upload files to your server/installation. Notice that in gpEasy 1.7+ there are now three optional view settings.
Uploaded Files Manager in gpEasy 1.7

When selected you are presented with the above page (on a fresh gpEasy install). Notice that on this page you cannot upload files. In order to upload files you must select a folder. Once a folder is selected you will notice the upload and create folder icons .
upload_images.jpg
An example of the upload area for images.
Location of the uploaded files
Files uploaded through gpEasy to your server are located in ../data/_uploaded/ of your gpEasy install.
Creating new folders for uploaded files
Note in the above images that the top level folder does not have an icon to create a new folder, however, in subfolders such as "images" you will see a "create folder" icon as in the above image. You can easily create new folders in these subdirectories but to create a new folder in the top level you must upload it via FTP or create it with your server's file manager.
Do NOT bypass the uploaded files manager
Any method you use to bypass the gpEasy uploader will bypass thumbnail creation.
There are other problems with bypassing the gpEasy uploader. Often, gpEasy won't be able to delete these files because the file owner isn't the same.
In general, it's best to use the gpEasy uploader whenever uploading any files to the uploaded folder.

Layouts

gpEasy 1.7+ changed the "theme manager" to "layouts." The layouts page is where you can select the default theme/layout for your site, add more layouts, and edit individual layouts. Layouts are a theme that has been added to gpEasy to be utilized by pages. A theme can be added as a layout multiple times. Each layout can have a unique arrangement of content areas.

Notice that the layouts allows you not only to choose a theme to be added as a layout but the color of that theme/layout if provided for by the developer. This is a unique and very flexible option in gpEasy. Therefore, when selecting a theme/layout in gpEasy you will be selecting the color of that theme.

Extra Content

The extra content page displays all HTML content areas. You can read more about HTML content areas here: Output Functions
gpEasy 1.7+ introduced the ability to add extra content areas from withing gpEasy.

Simply click the "edit" link and you will be taken to the HTML editor to edit that particular content area's content. In gpEasy 2.0+ you can now edit extra content areas from the front end when viewing a page when you are logged in. Just hover over the content area and you will see the red edit button pop up.

User Permissions

The user permissions page is where you can administer user's rights and register new users in gpEasy.

Configuration Options

Title
This is the title of your web site. It is what gpEasy will use in the "title tag" for search engines. If you leave this blank only the page's title will be displayed as the title tag.
Keywords
This is where you enter the keywords for your site. These are only used by search engines.
As of gpEasy 1.7+ keywords are also available on a per page basis via "rename/details" when editing a page. The keywords found here in the configurations will be appended to every page's keywords as these are the keywords for the entire site. If you do not want these site wide keywords appended to each page then you would leave this field blank which will lead to only the keywords entered in the page's details being added to the page.
Description
This is where you enter the description of your site. This is used only by search engines. The same goes for descriptions as keywords above.
ColorBox Style
This gives you six styles to choose from. These are the styles your images will be displayed in when using ColorBox. You can read more here [1]
HTML Tidy
This option will turn off HTML Tidy.
Hide gpEasy Link
This option will disable the "powered by gpEasy" link found within the admin links usually within the footer of most themes.
The other options not discussed here are either obvious or for advanced users.

Permalinks

The Permalinks page is where you will find the options to show/hide index.php in the URL.

Missing Links

The Missing Links admin page is where you will find the 404 error page as well as options to set redirects for pages that no longer exist in your gpEasy installation. This is very handy for those who move there site from a previous CMS or static HTML site.

Trash

The trash page is where you will find files you have deleted. You can restore them from here or delete forever. Please note that when deleting a file with the same name as one already in the trash it will permanently delete the file in the trash with the same name.

Uninstall Preparation

The uninstall preparation page is where you go if you want to remove your gpEasy site. You can also restore it here if you change your mind.
gpEasy can easily be backed up by copying the install folder and user data can be backed up easily by copying the data folder. Since gpEasy has no database you can completely remove it from a server by deleting the folder it is installed in.
